Duniway Foundation    FAQs

What is the difference between the PTA and the Foundation?

An easy way to remember the difference is the Foundation raises funds to pay for personnel while the PTA raises money for programs such as the Art Program, Writers in the School, classroom supplies for curriculum, and field trips. While both organizations are independent by design, they work together in order to provide our children with a rich educational experience.

Why do schools raise funds through their own local foundations?

As established by School Board policy, local school foundations are the only way in which school communities and parents may raise funds to pay for personnel. Historically Duniway has benefitted from one of the strongest local foundations in the district.

What is “equity fund” or one-third/two-thirds policy?

In accordance with Portland Public School Board policy one-third of funds raised (after the first $10,000) through local school foundations are given to the Portland Schools Foundation for the purpose of providing equity in funding for schools in the district that do not have the benefit of a foundation such as ours.
